In chapter Signs of Life.

I'm drawn in by the fantastical elements within mundane setting. Some of the specificity lacks purpose on first read.

No romance but interesting characters and relationships.
I think the chapters in the past were well done: they filled in some backstory as calm between the action of the present and later provided action as contrast to the lull in present day action.

We'll put together book that I really enjoyed.

It's not a Kvothe story and it doesn't have the feel of his adventures, but if you like Bast and mischief then you might enjoy.

Just set your expectations low so you can be pleasantly surprised.

Chapter 2 of Falling Free.

Enjoying it but haven't spent a lot of time reading.

Made it to chapter seven and haven't had interest to pick it up again.

The story's not bad, but it's not pulling me back in. Giving up for now.

A decade (or two) ago, I read the old Midkemia books (Krondor series), so many of the characters are familiar. But their children I don't remember at all. But the book feels too referential: so many characters introduced with allusions to previous adventures that I don't recall. It feels dull.

Pretty dull up to the fourth chapter, but picks up after that (when they leave Stardock).
