One thing in chapter 4 that has me perplexed is when Moses and Aaron are performing miracles they are considered miracles. However, when Pharaoh's people perform the same miracles, they are considered evil, magic, and a form of sorcery.

Can the Israelites be grateful they are no longer enslaved? It appears that they are losing faith and complaing a lot.

At first I thought, poor Joseph. Then he became of prominence in Egypt after being sold into slavery by his brothers. Joseph is not 100% innocent as he does plot twice against them.
I was surprised the book asked this: Why does God allow hurtful things to happen to people? My short answer: There is a bigger picture and God sees this. Things that are hurtful now in time help teach us and makes us stronger.

A chapter a week for the next 31 weeks. Bible study at church. DVD accompaniment.

Most things I'm understanding so far.

Why was Cain's offering not good enough for God?

My two biggest things that I need to pray and work on are relating things to my life/the present day (couple questions in the back of the book ask) and pronunciation.

Love this book so far. The attention to food and dress of the time period is amazing.

That chapter on France was extremely weak. At best, it talked about the upcoming election and who was best suited. One interesting part was to read about how the democratic base started to leave around this period because of the Dixiecrats.

That introduction was weak. The chapter on the universities and their protests was interesting.

It seems as though there is always a pause before acting, a pause before speaking, a pause in each interaction. The hesitation of it all. For a good portion of the book Mrs. Gereth's displeasure in and of Fleda made me think that she really loved Fleda more than a 'daughter-in-law-to-be.' Where I at though I'm happy that true, unfiltered feelings between all parties involved are starting to come forward.
