I was hoping for light and fun. I’m definitely getting that.

Time to lighten things up for a bit. This one looks fun.

I had a suspicion around page 100… it might be coming to fruition!!!

Damn. The most fierce, heartbreaking, and yet apt survivor eulogy. I gotta wonder if DiLouie didn’t meet a survivor who told him about this kind of primal response as a sole survivor. Regardless it fits perfectly.
I’ll have to tell him the next time I see him (at next signing I hope!) how perfect I think Laura’s rage and grief are here.

It’s interesting how much politics define the decisions of a police department. While I inherently know that, DiLouie really puts it in your face here. It’s a good reminder for me that often corruption rears its head at the exact wrong time and change the course of an entire investigation.

Starts out with a bang and not insignificant body count. :)

I really don’t understand why every single nuance and relationship must be described and discussed ad nauseam. Some of the details we are given are totally irrelevant. Important for the author to know and maybe pull out later; but not needed for the moment in the book. While I like the characters and plot; the writing is still wearing me down a bit.

WAIT WHAT?!?! oh… clever, clever. The Andrew’s duo got me… you just don’t expect… now I see why everyone says they can’t say much about the book except what the blurb says. I completely concur.
For a book that starts out a bit slow it sure has kept my attention for the last couple hundred pages. The hooks get deeper into me with every page turn…

After a very slow, shaky, overly descriptive start I’m hooked. Good characters, still a touch iffy on our MC gal but she’s wearing me down too. So many interesting side characters I want more of!
And while the world MC was dropped into is grimdark, I agree with others that the overall tone of the main story is hopeful. It’s very bizarre.

I had major doubts to start… but how that I’m a little ways in this seems to have gotten its claws into me. :)

So every interesting male in this world is gorgeous (and dangerous… seems unlikely. Lol

Finally getting into this. It’s a bit description heavy to start (even for high fantasy). I’m iffy on the lead gal so far… hopefully that gets better. (I am always iffy on portal fantasy that doesn’t start children so we will see on that issue too…)

False started in this twice… ignoring all library and others books to see if I can really get into this now.

I like how our MC talks smart but then instinct takes over and you want to survive, so then you do things you maybe wouldn’t if you had a moment to consider…

I like the small tidbits of info in misc formats between main chapters. All foreshadowing what is to come. Creates ominous feel.

This picked up significantly… I like how some communication breakdowns (common in a world with no cell phones) resulted in an unexpected event!

My mom and aunt asked me to read this to see if it’s ’worth it’ for them (aka Fourth Wing or ACOTAR). Guess we will see.

This is the slowest burn ever!!! Overwritten or wordy in the Stephen King often is. Be that good or bad.
A couple small things have been revealed but so far it’s far from ‘horror’, so I’m expecting a grotesque ending.

Finally! Some possibly horror type things may be happening. I see why many compared this to Midsommar.

Listening to most of this on audio, and even then it still feels overwritten and unnecessarily wordy. I’m not even convinced the reveal will be horrific or interesting anymore. I’m more concerned it will be a religious awakening, which is just not my thing…

This seems a bit too wordy… it’s not bad just a bit slow to read.

Okay… cult experience it is. Yep definitely a little weird and creepy.

As always a smooth read. While this series does not always have the best plots; I do enjoy just hanging with these characters.

Took a break to walk the dog and all I could think for a couple of blocks was if there were things around me I couldn’t see… this book just might make someone fall into a paranoid state! (Soooo good!!!)
