Writing from Costa Rica today, where I’m deep in the work of Child H. Hannah’s story keeps asking for quiet, careful pages. I’m following her one scene at a time and looking forward to sharing the novel with readers this October.

While writing Child H, I’ve been thinking about how deeply a place can shape a life. The Glens is a fictional mountain region stretching across Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky, filled with farms, churches, and hidden communities. The Glens came from a place I love. Even when I’m far away, those mountains still whisper stories to me. What fictional setting has felt so real to you that you wished you could visit it?

"A Feed Sack Dress for Sadie" releases next week.

The story came from something real. My mother was a hospice volunteer and cared for a woman who kept a photo of a little girl in a crudely cut burlap sack dress. She said she had been stolen as a child and never knew where she came from.

That stayed with me. I carried her story as I wrote it.
