E.A. is on page 94 of 194 of How I Live Now
Very much charmed by this, like I was by the film - there's a reality and palpability and foreshadowing and just plain humanity beyond your average YA dystopian story. Love the narrator's voice.

"I don't get nearly enough credit in life for the things I manage not to say" made me laugh.

Finally making headway in this - had to start again. Yay for 30m of ISSR. Once you get into the story more the unusual metaphorical language becomes normal enough and doesn't get in the way of making sense out of the story.

Such tender fragile prose - a fascinating tone that constantly painfully hints at the tragedy to come, that through this is already felt to be inevitable. Knowing what happens is irrelevant, you feel it from the first paragraph.

So I like the beautifully subtle development of Huck's thoughts on Jim, but I'm noticing the events which are described in the meanwhile don't hold my attention as much and I can't just keep reading without breaks.

Conclusion: yes, I have read this before, in some past so distant I wasn't sure anymore.

I had completely forgotten the opening notice though, stating that anyone trying to find a moral in the story will be shot by order of the author. Be warned.

So has the recommend option really disappeared, or am I just looking in the wrong place?

So I skipped the introduction to read afterwards, just wanting to experience the story first.

Those opening lines! Instantly memorable.

This has been my reread-something-simple-when-tired book for a year or so now and I guess with the house I've had more need of it, so really made some headway. There's some fun nostalgia reading this again, though overall the style isn't what I remember.

Fascinating.
Even though I often am aware of the general conclusion, seeing the details and reasoning and evidence behind it is very enlightening. Learning a lot.
Ever heard of a 'triracial isolate'? Know at what point in time 'Americans' stopped referring automatically to 'Native Americans' and started meaning something else?

I need to stop reading books that make me want to (re)structure entire themes of CUID to be built around them.

So if you will kindly all just read this book, I would be much obliged. Alternatively, read his more recent book and then get back to me with detailed notes so I can compare.

E.A. is on page 15 of 388 of Red Queen (Red Queen, #1)
So I picked this up at a recent thrift store for free, and figured I might give it a try. First chapter makes me conclude it's typical YA dystopia with a fantasy touch that I'm not likely to find very interesting, but upside is that I can fly through it, so I guess I'll continue. If you do like this sort of story at the moment, you may well enjoy this one too. And maybe I'll change my mind because it gets better.

So I read a volume with the first few parts a few years ago (if you're the person who has the class library copy, do return it), but now picked up the complete volume and will read from the start. Looking forward to it.
