Regarding Don Judd: “The concrete pieces in the field are purposeful and powerful but they also present a mystery in their sets of variations. How many iterations are there? What will this material do? How much do the sun and clouds and grassland matter? What else is possible?
And that's the crux of Marfa: plumbing the question of what is possible.”

Honestly it may take a bit to get through this book. It was actually quite good. Then all of a sudden the chapters were just focused on the sexual tension between two characters. No more action. No more character development. Just same situation after same situation. Taking turns with the “I want you but can’t have you” forbidden lovers trope. A chapter fine. But several now and the story has plateaued.

“You are sad?” Andarna asks, her voice soft.
“Just visiting the Archives. No need to worry,” I tell her.
“It’s hard to love a second home as much as the first.”
I swallow. “It’s easy when the second home is the right one.”

Okok. So it isn’t like Priory. I’m digging it so far. Do you ever look up artwork on how others depict the characters? I do. But I’m this instance I should have just left it to my imagination.

So far so good. Doing my best not to compare it to the Priory of the Orange Tree.

It seemed like a slow start to the book, then WHAM! Very, very excited to see where this goes.
