this is already a really wonderful read. super super powerful, at times difficult to read, but really great so far. each essay is so different from each other so far--the first being centered on 10 year old Morgan's views, the second being a second-person checklist on how to make a black girl docile and, in turn, kill her, and this one being full of historical and scientific notes on hair and beauty standards.

so about Gabi. around when she started trying to mAkEoVer Liz, she thought about all the times Gabi was there for her w her mom and everything. which is great. but having been a good friend in the past does NOT give you a pass to treat your friend like shit!!!! and her never apologizing and just deciding that things are ok instead of talking it out hits a little too close to home for me... 😔✌️ f.

I adore this book already. Felix is a wonderful mc--Callender's writing makes it so I really feel everything he's feeling, and it's a mix of perfect understanding and empathizing with experiences I've never had. And they also have me hating Declan and Marisol with a PASSION. I mean--you "decided to become a boy, so you're a misogynistic?" uhhh FUCK THAT SHIT!!! don't have enough space for my rant uh fuck terfs eeeeee

I like this book so far, though since I'm not fluent in French yet, reading it involves a lot of rereading, making flashcards for words I highlighted, and rereading again. Some sections are full of super specific words I've had no reason to learn before, which is a bit disheartening, but other times I can read the whole page confidently. I'm glad I can still pick up the vivid imagery and emotions in the writing.

I just want Stephen and Mary to stay happy like this forever.

why was I so upset about the horse dying

this book...it hurts to read. sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's sweet, sometimes it's beautiful. that makes me love it. but reading about this woman who on one hand strongly believes she has a right to exist but also believes she was a mistake on God's part...it just hurts. sometimes remembering just hurts.

oops my book has more pages than the goodreads one lol

It's kind of cheating to keep logging this book, since I'm logging each novel in the series as a separate book as opposed to this one, but it'll bug me to not have the collection on my read shelf so screw it.
