When the specially outfitted train was mentioned, I immediately thought, "So this is how James West got his start!"

Only just started. No time for anything of consequence to happen beyond the cavalry squad becoming vampire fodder.

Sumi is on page 213 of 325 of The Alloy of Law (Mistborn, #4)
A fantasy set in late 19th time frame that read a bit like a western. I like fantasies that try and break out of the medieval setting mold.

Forget the piano, nothing less than six metric tons will do. What an ass.

I'd like a piano dropped on Theran.

I'm listening to the audio and I'm not sure I can take the mispronunciations much longer. I may need to switch to the book.

Whenever I read about the imperial couple I always start out wondering if this train wreck could have been avoided and the answer is always the same. No.

So far I'd say the reviews are correct. I already dislike her characterizations.

Reading Author's Notes first. Why? Because they're really amusing.

Sumi is on page 34 of 206 of A Thousand Ways to Please a Family with Bettina's Best Recipes (Bettina, #2)
Published in 1922, a cookbook embedded in the year of a life of a fictional family (apparently the second in a series). Amused that the Meat Pie recipe didn't have any meat listed in the ingredients.

Oh, good, a plucky heroine. I was hoping there'd be one but since women tended to be such non-entities in ancient Athens I was wondering if it would happen.

Interesting tidbit on popping corn back in the colonial period using sand. Less fattening but much more wearing on the teeth I should think if the sand wasn't completely sieved out.

Always nice to have a pronunciation guide to the names. If only Tolstoy had thought of that...

Mrs. Pollifax was not sent to Albania, she was sent to Mexico but was kidnapped and taken to Albania. Did the author even read the book? Or just a cover blurb.
