Of COURSE Daniel Kraus is delivering some of the most awful body horror I’ve ever encountered on page 12.

Oof I guess we’re going to get ten character introductions to match the poem! Lots to digest in quick succession, but at least each is clearly motivated and has a distinct personality.

This is much slower-paced than I’d hoped, less thriller and more character study.

An oddly soothing listen, as poetic and dreamy as it is conniving. It feels long though—I can’t image how there could still be so much more book left to go!

Having trouble coming back to this. I don’t remember a lot of important details, and the text jumps between ideas without helping connect the dots.

This is upsetting and a good character moment, but i feel so disconnected from it as commentary. Like, how often are mothers being made to give up their babies? I think it’s more often the opposite: women being expected by default to handle everything to do with babies.

I find I don’t really buy the world-building!

I know it’s historically accurate how much the N-word is flying around, but coming from a white writer in the 90s… I can’t help but feel suspicious of her willingness to use it.
