yes I am rereading a book I read last month

This is a great book but with all due respect to Tess, this is not the time for me to empathize with her. I will finish it later because I can see that it may be Hardy's best.

So far, great! Eliot seems to have composed a masterpiece with elements from Trollope, Hardy and Mrs. Gaitskill.

I really loved this book. As usual, Hardy captures a physical and social milieu, and I wanted to see what happens. I wasn't necessarily depressed while reading the book, but retrospectively, very depressing. The main character is amazingly drawn.

The grandeur of the landscapes, the naïve impulsivity of some key characters, the death ex machina that resolves the plot: you gotta love Hardy.

I was tempted by some other amazing books, but I started this (which I probably read once 20+ years ago) and I cannot put it down.

I quit.
Too sordid for me in my current state of mind.

At least I'm trying to read Ulysses.
