Very atmospheric creep-thriller-horror. I found this more to be an iconic than riveting horror. The novel proceeds to present a group of characters that are at different stages of maturity, not necessarily attached to their age.
While Jackson gives what are now classic scenes of haunted house horror, the book serves as an historic piece, a sort of progenitor of the scenes now widely expected in house-horror.
