I've been thinking it, but maybe Zavier and Ransom are brothers or cousins? Maybe Ransom was heir apparent until the infection, where it changed hands to Zavier? Nobody is supposed to know about the infection, did they just secretly switch roles instead?

There's no way the Guardian isn't actually the Prince. Being the mouthpiece and "Zavier" would have easily signed the name with the actual prince's blood. It's not like any of this would have been hard to fake so far. Everything is technically correct.
