there’s so much going on 😵‍💫

the author can keep writing about how these two are lusting over each other but there is just no chemistry 🫩

i think it’s only appropriate that i read this book now, when i am currently in mexico, on the balcony overlooking the city of nuevo vallarta. the vibe is immaculate.

“mouse” — 2. i was hoping this book would redeem itself but it’s been a downward slope so far.

“the old lion” — 2. ok, and?

“ghost kitchen” — 2.5. quality has slipped the farther i get in this collection.

“fairies” — 3. i can’t stand it when the main character is relentlessly bullied. even more so when the comeuppance sounds lame.

“bob-a-job” — 2.5. had potential, but slogged immediately after it started.

“going large” — 4.5, surprisingly a positive ending…? am i being punk’d?

“carcinisation” — 2.5. it became meh.

“rosheen” — 2. also boring.

“the smiling african uncle” — 4.5. grim. and i wouldn’t be surprised if this new immigration process makes its way into real life.

“shade” — 2. boring.

“waffle thomas” — 1. wtf was that??

“apples” — 3.5. felt rushed. did mack murder the brighton girl or was karen overthinking it? had she seen the images upon meeting mack and then projected them to laura after laura ate the apples?

“the broccoli eel” — 4 stars. so…did benny’s mummy die or??

“daisies” — 3.5 stars. a shame that the ending was not satisfying. the lead up was intriguing, but eventually lead nowhere.

“the fruiting body” — 4 stars. longer than it needed to be. did paul gaslight jen the whole time or was the anomalous fruiting body actually calling out to her?

“flight 2212” — 5 stars. short but packs a punch, no pun intended. (because tulsa has no hands…lol)

“fight, flight, freeze” — 5 stars. i want to know how that decision worked out for sara. but at the same time, it’s such a metal ending that i can’t complain much.
