Kate is a girl who has been passed from group home to group home and now is living in the Common Grounds group home.As she thinks her life cant get any worse she meets a boy named Percy and he makes her feel so special and wanted and buys her gifts all the time. Then he gets her a phone so they can stay in touch but Kate's friend Felicia thinks that its a bit early to be giving out phones and is worried about her.

As Walter got older his reading and writing has improved.As a teenager Walter went to Stuyvesant High School but in this school he would get in a lot of trouble for not attending school.So when he realized that he was not graduating he joined the army at the age seventeen.Even though he went to the army he was still writing and submitting his work and that when he got his big break and became a professional writer.

Walter Milton Myers has been adopted by Florence Dean(the dads ex-girlfriend)to come live with her and her family in Harlem.Soon Walter starts to consider that this is his real family and that Florence is his mother.As Walter starts school he is a very good reader but could not speak very well so the kids made fun of him.This would led to Walter starting a lot of fight because the kids made fun of him.
