almost done with this 1500+pages monstrosity. well, "almost", apparently it's still 6 hours to go

I try to read everything from a place of understanding, but it's kind of hard with this one, because a lot of it is explained by "huh, I guess my actions are not making any sense, right?" yep. not making sense to me. also interesting how it seems like the super duper dark satanic world that this story is set in is used to justify the things that don't make sense. is it cause of the call of the abyss? idk

"if you love them let them go" is the most infuriating piece of BS, it needs to be set on fire and die screaming

1. i don't care for glamorous vacations
2. i swear to god this whole thing is going to end up being a dumb misunderstanding because 50% in this book still has no conflict

I'm enjoying this a lot more than the first book

I knew I was going to like it from the first chapter, but this is brilliant. First of all, magic that is created from the meanings lost in translation?! That concept is a language learner's dream!!! I love it. And the book has oddly Harry Potter-ish vibes—only if Harry realised that the magic he loves so much is the foundation of the very unjust societies and systems that made him into an underdog in the first place.
