Ok, we're almost halfway through and I LOVE it so far. It's giving The Bell Jar circa WW11 + "is it murder mystery or is it insanity?" vibes and I am eating it UP.

I'm 7 books behind on my reading challenge... probably because I have 7 books on the fire at once. oops.

This is tough to read, being so poorly edited. Some good nuggets, though. Much more of a primer for those *in* abusive relationships, looking to get out, than it is for adults in healthy relationships who have already done some of the work.

This book is so good, and is making me sad I don't have the mental and emotional bandwidth to dive into writing some of my stories right now lol

You know, there's always something a bit off-putting for me about McEwan. And yet, I keep coming back. There's a tinge of ... maybe disgust? And, thinking back, I feel it in all of his novels I've read. But here we are, still plowing through.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I'll get into it more in my review. I think there's a lot of good stuff in here, but I don't love the author's tone - feels a bit condescending. Also, I'm not questioning the authority of scripture, or the author's intentions, but I feel like he leans way too heavily on certain verses and applies many verses somewhat out of context - to good effect, but I don't love the approach

I think I'm giving up on this one. I've renewed it twice and can't seem to force myself to pick it up and keep reading.

OH. MY. GOSH. It is a personal affront to me that I have to put this book down and continue doing normal life things instead of blazing all the way through it.

I gotta hurry with this one. I've already renewed it twice. But it's slow going - idk if it's just me, but I'm kind of bored and needing to skim. The ideas for writing exercises are great, but I didn't realize it was an exercise book. I'm not sure what i was looking for. Tbd if I'll find it.

As is the importance of learning how to take responsibility for our emotions, let other people be responsible for theirs, and accept what others can give us nonjudgementally.

these concepts are all that rings true. mostly a collection of impressive anecdotes about victims of anxiety or self-harm realizing their sensations & thoughts were inherited from relatives they never even knew & being cured by imaginary convos
