Why do I feel like Barbara and Bear are both in the woods?

I started off on this as an audio book and realized I suck at paying attention so now I’m trying to physically read it. It’s good! Reads like a Netflix drama in all honesty. I can even picture the scene changes and camera angles

So, I suffered from depression anxiety and had a bout of disassociate disorder after trauma. This book is complex in a way I feel through her experience with a not so positive mother figure, experienced repressed trauma and found expression in poetic prose which is similar to what happened to me. I’m not sure if this is a memoir or just a poetic ovservation piece, but it’s quite ahead of its time.

It’s like I’m watching the last 7 years unfold slowly through a dissociated lens

Writing style is choppy but content so far is good

This book has to have been sent to me from God because I just moved to NYC and what she’s explaining is EVERYTHING I’m feeling about this right now and how it’s affecting my mental health. Just the first 4 pages and I’ve never been more seen and understood by someone.

I already like it here. “On the outside I seemed to be functioning well, but inside I had the feeling that nothing had meaning and also everything was fake.”

There’s so much going on here wow I can’t wait to get through part 2 because part 1 blew me away!

I hope they make a movie out of this one day

This book is so well done that it’s hard to keep putting it down so I can be productive ahhh

This book is surprising me on the details and how well done it is

I just learned what the Green Book is and I’m willing to bet Google and Apple Maps along with Yelp stole the idea from that which was published in 1933 for Black Motorists to find safe places they could go and routes to avoid sundown towns. I love this inclusive detail in the text as it shows contrast between Vernice and Annie’s lives as well as helps us learn more about historical literature.
