My slow, incremental progress on this one doesn’t do this book justice, considering how good it is. feels like the unofficial representative for “people who lurk on letterboxd and love pop culture” - which is to say it’s a very good time

It’s good, a little heavyhanded at times with its reinforcement of Wilder being “different” - but have genuinely enjoyed the first half overall

Very funny, having just read the first chapter I can already tell I’ll like it. Definition of a “summer” read, it panders a lot to younger audience with slang but not too aggressively

Just 52 pages in and the book is practically reading itself. Something about Lee’s writing, the way she forms sentences and descriptors, the dialogue between characters - it all comes together to make you feel deeply engrossed in this world

Current thoughts about 85% of the way through this book:

Stuff is getting “eventful” but the book spends what feels like an inordinate amount of time describing a daisychain of events / circumstances on the yacht that never really elevate beyond “vaguely weird” in terms of severity. You are not rewarded handsomely until about 70% of the way through when stuff really hits the fan….
