Ya know when you’re having an imaginary argument with the shampoo bottles in the shower? That’s like what Ghandi is doing in this book. Like all of those types of arguments, it is bulletproof.

First half is some of the best discourse on consciousness, desire, and suffering that I have ever read. Second half is shaping up to be classic Dostoevsky loner/outsider story. Lovin it

So much rich history. I have a newfound respect for Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace. I already knew who they were but dang were they ahead of their time.

Very good! Everything he says goes beyond just architecture. It’s a discourse on the role of senses (specifically vision and touch) in the human experience. Our consumption of information is almost exclusively visual and auditory nowadays so touch is often neglected.

Not sure how else to put this, but this book sucks. I am so incredibly lost. The commentator is a rambling moron. It gives me very strong Catch 22 vibes so I am hoping that things start to make more sense towards the end.

The duality of flesh and spirit seems to be a common theme in Hesse's books. Happy to see it here again. The river to me symbolizes rebirth through baptism. It is dying to one's past sinful self and being reborn as a person devoted to God, or in Siddartha's case, Atman.

Very interesting story so far. The now estranged friendship between Joseph and Plinio was something I could easily relate to. Joseph's tutelage of ancient Chinese culture from a wise old hermit felt like a classic trope but it did not bother me.

Easily one of the most eye opening and beautiful books I’ve ever read.

Everything has been very straight forward and easily understandable so far. I really enjoyed Calculus so I was happy to follow along with the math when asked.
