Spending time away from the PC means I don't update so often!! Mr Bird has hit the mark again with his somewhat disturbing realistic fantasy look at the world.

I love Mr Bird's humour. Not having read the object of his parody, I may miss a few jokes, however, there's enough in the media for me to get most of it!

Can anyone help? I'm trying to remember the title of a children's book I read a couple of years ago: It's about two children who live on the city of London - on because all cities are now mobile, powered by steam engines and running on caterpillar tracks. Wars are carried out by large cities hunting down smaller ones. Ring any bells...please???

Oh my! what a book. This is a keeper...and something I must reread, there are so many layers.

Not sure I like these new bright green buttons...they seem awfully pushy!! Why change something that was working so well before? There's no longer a "type in" space, so I can't quickly get to a shelf at the far end of the alphabet :-(

Pretty action packed come the end. I still didn't really care about the characters, somehow, all was to detached

More things are happening, but I don't feel the story is progressing. It feels like more of the same; there is no sense of time passing, or of a time window closing, although we've been told there is.
The passages taken from The Riding Instructor feel more real than the story.

I think we're getting close to the point where the pieces will fall together and tension start to build

The story is still somewhat loose and unconnected at the moment. Several interesting characters.

Hmmmm....this seems to have devolved into a standard frat house drinking, weed smoking girl chasing farce. The pharma element seems to be driving certain characters to act like someone from Apocolypse Now (Lite).
Lots of mis-spelt words: their instead of there, and several parent's instead of parents.
Losing connection with the characters.

Being an Englishwoman, I think some of the references in a US frat house are passing me by.
I listened to the BBC's radio adaptation of "The Graduate" over the weekend; this is strangely reminiscent of that atmosphere of youth angst. Some scenes are pure farce that would work well on stage/screen; others are just plain weird. A few typos but otherwise technically sound.

I missed bfast, stayed in bed on a rare sunny day, all because I was so caught up in this book. The radio was on, I can hear it clearly as I now sit in another room, but I didn't hear it whilst reading. What more do I need to say about how gripping this book is?
I did get up for lunch & ate cereal outside in the sun whilst finishing the book. I didn't notice I was crying until I rubbed suntan lotion into my eyes.

I have a theory...on how this ends.
Enjoying it (is that the right word?) so far. The descriptions are both vivid and darkly amusing.
