I didn’t love the first bit but came down really liking it. I don’t think i am the person who needs it most

Interesting but self-help-y, which is a very individual solution to a social problem. DNF late in book.

FUUUUUUUUUUUCK this book. Brownface, a complete incapability to comprehend animals, Men Writing, men writing the apocalypse, and more.

This is delightful and has just turned into a Little Mermaid plot. I'm really excited to see what the author does to subvert this.

I'm having so much anxiety about this book, especially Staten Island. Some of the scenes with her are just punishing. This isn't a criticism of the book: it's very good.

I think that I just have far more trouble reading scenes with my ears than eyes when something awful is happening, because it feels like it's out of my control.

I still don't think that 1. Harrow's parents' deaths make any sense
2. Gideon and Harrow's relationship makes any sense.

But at least they're trying to make things matter.

Hoo boy. I forgot how transphobic this book is.

Still bored. The whole mystery house/battle royale element simply isn't interesting and I can't find it in myself to care about rich white children.

Loving this. I love Petal. I love the spiky lesbian. I love the slutty dead treacherous forbearer.

I wish it had more independence from Ancillary Justice, but I love a slutty political space opera.

Still uninterested

I'm really not feeling this. I'm going to finish it because it's such a hit but there's so much redundancy in the exposition, and none of the delight i would hope for in something that's clearly got elements of mystery but doesn't lean into them sufficiently. I think a lot of the frustration comes from that fact that there are no interesting stakes and the world is not sufficiently realized to supply them.

1. I love that Dante canonically has awful fucking taste in fashion. What a good, good, good tacky fucking idiot. Holy crap. She fully looks like she walked off the page of my Immortal. 1456o3iuo43i5/10 (yes there are letters in there)
2. one of the things that really betrays the anime/comics roots of these books is the degree of detail that comes to all minor characters' appearances? they all feel important.

DNF. I'm not interested in following around heroes whose domestic abuse is justified because their supposedly clever little sisters are actually just drunken stupid slut bitches. Truly incredible.

I'm at the point where I've realized that nothing interesting is going to happen in this book. It's unilaterally bad. A fourth female characters appeared, but she's a dead nameless cannibal. Ooh, and a whore, for two seconds. Jesus.

apparently i'm finishing this. there are three women with names. i still can't believe this is the book my father is raving about. he said Ancillary Sword was "all talking" but logan ninefingers has been in 2 fights and neither of them was that exciting (actually, the narration was so confusing i thought he'd been impaled during one of them). this is just............. so dull. somehow i'm still here.

My father really likes this book, but he thinks that there's "too much talking" in Ancillary Sword. I expect to dnf at 30%, maybe.

Seriously considering DNFing this. The first story was hilarious, but now that we've wandered off into the weeds where the only characters are incredible rich and incredibly horrible, I really can't be bothered.
