To be sure, no prizes for literature on the way but as with the predecessors, a book that you cannot put down since you absolutely have to find out what is going to happen on the next page.

No, I'm not finished. I abandoned this book after reading a third way through. This reminds me why I always disliked reading Stephen King novels. Please, please get on with the flippen story! Stephen King delves into never ending micro diversions about al sorts of obscure details in the lives of his characters.

Life is to short to have the patience for enduring this shit.

My copy (Phoenix Press) has a binding error, page 139 becomes page 173 when turning the page. It seems that Phoenix Press no longer exists.

Bought it some years back, a useful resource to look things up and frequently used. Have not read it from cover to cover, more suited for dipping into.

This book is written from the perspective of a liberal, slightly left-wing, post colonialist rather than from the perspective of either the colonial powers or the white minorities present in South Africa.

Casper Labuschagne is on page 60 of 229 of Hamlet
I had my doubts but the quickly vanished within the first few pages. It will be a mistake to compare this to Shakespeare, this reads like a modern novel exposing a contemporary event we are all aware of. And in that context this stands on its own right as an excellent read. Several times this morning I picked it up to read another couple of pages whenever I had a minute to spare.
