Kaz is genuinely one of the most annoying main(ish) characters I've ever had to deal with in a fantasy novel. He's arrogant, annoyingly overpowered, and unpleasant to literally everyone around him. I understand that's supposed to paint him as some morally grey badass but it makes his character a flat, lifeless stereotype of what a "morally grey mc" should be. I hate him and in turn am not loving this at all.

Kat is on page 136 of 525 of The Spear Cuts Through Water

Ok maybe I'm liking this less than originally anticipated

It's absolutely brutal. There is no mercy present for anybody in this book. At least so far. Which doesn't inherently make a story BAD but it's unpleasant to read through much of what happens. The story is also reasonably confusing, adding to my hesitation to say I'm still enjoying it.
