"It's very... cloistered here, isn't it? The people who live here are pretty privileged, but I doubt if they see it that way. Like the Londoners who live in Hamstead. People who've been lucky in life don't really like to be reminded of it".

This is an interesting insight into the life of Bournville today, too. But what does it mean to have been "lucky in life"? A subjective notion, an ambiguous notion.

This book gives a lot of insight into refugee life during WWII and describes the big efforts of many including, but not limited to, The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and Christadelphians. A truly inspiring read which teaches us to be grateful for what we have.

As a student teacher of English language, I'm finding this book really useful as my main academic background is in literature. I'm not an ESOL teacher, but many of my students are ESOL speakers.

I suspect that chapter 3 will be very beneficial to me as I teach Pre-Entry level English.

Caution:
Whilst I'm very grateful to the author for writing this very useful text, it contains SPAG & expression errors.

A really charming read, The Sea Shell Girl has been a comforting treat to me during an intense period of exam revision.

Occasional publishing errors which could easily be corrected.

If you like books about fishing villages, you'll love this book!

Truly inspiring and sad, forthright and direct, Gemma Dowler doesn't pull any punches in exposing the police, press and other professionals who let the Dowler family down at their unimaginable crisis, and that's an understatement. The murder of Milly Dowler happened in my generation and I just had to read this book. It should be read by journalists, paps, CID and many others.

I'm on page 500 and don't want this desperately sad yet redeeming book to end! The main message, apart from the many ways the Dowlers were let down, is that Gemma, and her family, loved, adored Milly and always will.

A wonderful short read, perhaps a good little book for school children about to start a new school in September with its wisdom, humour and good moral lessons about camaraderie.

I love Hensley's simple, unpretentious style of writing and the clear affection he has for the Christadelphian community and also for the Jewish people of whom he writes with great care.

Until recently, I didn't know about the involvement Christadelphians had in supporting Jewish refugees at the time of the Shoah and have found reading volumes 1 & 2 redeeming and insightful. I'd definitely recommend these books !

This is a redeeming book which bears testimony to the good of humankind in the face of extreme bad. Further, it bears testimony to the true love that the Christadelphians have for the Jewish people.

What I love about this book is the very readable, easy going language. It is well written, contains occasional typos, but is thoroughly down to earth without pretention, thus making it a fast but enjoyable read.

An at times badly written book badly in need of a publisher's proof read. It took me a while to get into and to finish reading. However, it contains very detailed commentary on the subject of antisemitism in Left wing politics and is very pertinent to the first two decades of the 21st century as it was in the 1980s. Strikingly relevant, for example, in relation to the recently departed Labour leadership under Jeremy.

A very informative read, this book has given me new insights into the lives of those who lived in the concentration camps, both those who survived, and those who did not. In their struggles, we can hear, feel and imbibe the Exodus and eventual freedom from bondage. I wish I'd read this book sooner.

This is an interesting read and and an important debate with which to engage. The first few pages were a little tedious, but I'm finding the main body of the book, especially the historical aspects, very interesting! It appears to be well researched and is therefore, very informative. However, this only partially excuses a significant lack of proofreading which is annoying! Words often run into each other.

Just as sweet as I thought she'd be, Patsy Palmer writes from the heart with great humility. She clearly knows about real life and strife, she's been there, got the T-shirt and fome out the other side.

A superb, interesting short book about the history of the Quakers in Wales, this was a great read for a new English Quaker and I'd highly recommend it (also available in Welsh). Although mainly about the history of Welsh Friends, it also has some great reflections written by contemporary Welsh Friends which addresses aspects of diversity, very much in keeping with the theme of Britain Yearly Meeting 2019 .

" 'What wanton liars love makes of us,' she thought. What dark tangled paths it has us tread". This novel is erotic, sensual & romantic. There's a sense of universal identification with which anyone who has had a relationship can identify. There are so many levels on which this story can relate to the human condition!

This book is a pleasure to read and there is a strong sense of Le Bas searching with zeal to explore the places where gypsies have historically stayed throughout the UK.
It reads like a novel at times and he has quite a flare for descriptive writing through a literary lens which is impressive.
