33 pages in: oh dear. Friends, we have a gimmick. I was really not in the mood for a silly writing style syntax experiment, which is so far not at all helped by the gnarly (not in a good way) visceral combat soldier content. But it just won the Pulitzer and you know I'm going to keep reading and it's due back at the library so I can't even do something tolerable like 10 pages a day for a month. 🙃
