Almost certain I’ve figured out the twist.

Page 12 “electric darkness”. Cool turn of phrase. Evocative. I like it.
Page 37 “electric city darkness”. Sure, it’s cool enough to be used again, and this is probably a deliberate callback.
Page 54 “shiny darkness”. Now this is just getting silly.

For supposedly smart characters it took these morons far too long to figure out Ellie had been kidnapped.

Literally swore and threw this book across the room when I finished Song of the West. Hated it.

Why is everyone acting like Karen (unfortunate name BTW) is faking her amnesia? Retrograde amnesia is incredibly common with head injuries. The majority of people at minimum don’t remember the blow that knocked them out. Of course the husband would be confused- his medical education comes from TV. But I expect the doctor, the police and the lawyer to know better!
