The fact that the Jews and Italians had no idea about the concentration camps and all that went on there boggles my mind.
(With the exception of soldiers and doctors that had escaped or run away from the war, of course.)

I'm finding this one a bit slow. I am not overly familiar with this part of the war, and also there are just so many characters!

Lovely poetry.
Lovely Irish brogue narrator (the author's brother.)
Inspiringly introspective.

This one is a bit clunky on audio, although it does have extra podcast style content that the book does not have.

The clunk factor is that all of the scripture references being read mid sentence break things up and make it difficult for me to follow what he is trying to say.

After trying the dramatized adaptation, I do believe I prefer the simple audio version better.

"Sat. May 2, 1846. Churned and baked. Got along pretty well with my work altho there are so many things that need to be done, I hardly know what to do first..."

I was just telling my husband this morning, after working all week.

This rather reminds me of a little plaque my Grandma Tuck had hanging on her kitchen wall, which said, " a man works from sun to sun, but a woman's work is never done."

Truth.

I picked up this book because it is set in Colorado. Wanted something setting my homeland again after reading Go as a River.

The author has chosen to use various mediums of writing to tell the story. So far, she has used letters, a screenplay, recipes, newspaper articles, and regular narrative to tell the story. This feels like one of those mail-order mystery subscriptions, but in book form.

My favorite part so far is the frolicking sheep flipbook in the corners of every page of the book.

I am not the target audience for this book anymore, as my kids are grown adults now.

I am sure the concepts can be applied, but rather than continue the audio, I am thinking I will get the paper book so that I can skim more thoroughly and catch the high points.

My love language isn't words of affirmation, and I think this book is heavy on that. I was kind of looking for something to strengthen that part of myself

I found the first part of the book inspirational, but the rest is a bit too complicated for my now-life. Pretty sure I'm going to move on from this soon...

I am not liking this book near as much as I had hoped. I am about 2/3 through. I am finding myself a bit bored and restless, but I want to see things through to the end.

A welcome change from all of the serious reading I've been doing lately. I am listening to the audiobook. Light, amusing entertainment, and a picturesque view of "simpler" times. A bit repetitive but that's perhaps necessary as we take in scenes from the different characters' points of view.
Endearing characters.
It's not the same, but for me it's a diversion similar to the Flavia De Luca series by Alan Bradley.

This has a lot of good info but I just currently don't have the time to read thoroughly and truly take it all in. Setting aside for now and my come back later.
