I lover this writer's prose. It sucks me into the character right away.

I have the large print edition from my library. Over 700 pages. But it's good reading, as opposed to other thick books on my Reading shelf that sucked me in and became plodders.

Research for my novel Zook's Corner. Interesting and surprisingly readable.

There is so much writing wisdom in this book. Even though it's decades later, I bet it would be useful to wanna-be screenwriters, to. Not just a story of breaking in the playwright business, Neil talks a out his family life, his insecurities and the famous people he worked with in an integrated way with humility and appreciation.

Doctorow doesn't care much for conventions just read a five page chapter made of several long long paragraphs that used a period at the end of each and one comma and one exclamation point all the way through and switches POV from first to third in a single paragraph but it works it reads fast and skips around on a tangled timeline but somehow it works.
