Finished chapter 2 all about the South Sea Bubble stock disaster in England in the 1700s. I admit I couldn't follow all the financial ins and outs, but the retribution against the company's directors was interesting. It was such a massive scam on a vast scale, affecting people in every class. Really shows how people can get carried away with the promise of gold and silver.

Finished the first chapter on the the attempts to replace silver and gold coinage with paper money along with a huge rush to purchase stock in the Mississippi Company in France during the early 18th century. The descriptions of the lengths to which investors would go to try and get in on the stock deal were fascinating, as were the descriptions of the reactions when everything blew up.

So good to get back to a well-written and well-constructed mystery. I'll admit I'm a bit in love with DI Skelgill.

This is a collection of three short stories with the first being focused on DCI Tom Romney and DS Joy Marsh. On a day by the coast, Romney and Marsh get caught in a thunderstorm and take refuge in an old WWII anti-aircraft gun embankment. They are stuck there and discover a body. They are joined by a few others and Romney begins trying to figure out who murdered the old tramp. It was a fun story.
