Time to end this!

My re-read (listen) of Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne continues!

It's very readable. Nothing drags, there's some good character moments. But it just feels like DCC lite. Same plot, different setting. Almost like someone wanted DCC again but without the insane quirkiness and a more generic foundation.

My next audiobook. 5 chapters in so far... hmmm...

This is a re-read(listen). I was fancying a bit of epic fantasy on the darker and it's been a good handful of years since I first read this. Turns out it's still really good! :D

I've got my finger on the pulse with this completely unknown book. Lets see if its got legs.

I have never read a Joe Hill book. But a lot of folk I know are raving about this one, so lets check it out.

I've been meaning to check out Zamil Akhtar's series for some time now. It's pretty good so far. No gods, but plenty of death.

A book that is desperate to be Aliens. It has the soldiers, it has the weaponry, it has the banter, it has the xenomorphs. It even has a Ripley (kinda). But I have a major issue with an empath sensing the emotions of the Aliens. Because they are meant to be ALIEN. Entirely alien, unknowable. Its part of what makes them so scary.

I'm not sure what's going on with the series numbering. GR has this as book 2. But Audible lists it as book 3. Anyways, I'm gonna finish the audio drama of this series. Book 1 was great, book 2 was a huge let down, I'm hoping this one is a return to form.

I'm working my way through a bunch of Alien books at the moment for some reason. And as I really enjoyed the audio drama version of the first book in this loosely connected series, I thought I'd try it again with book 2.

Decent so far but not great.

This book is a meandering masterclass in world building. But it's also failing in making me feel connected to any of the characters.

Fairly tough going so far. It's definitely interesting and the world building on display is excellent, it really feels like a living, breathing world. But I'm just over 200 pages in and... nothing has really happened. Still, I'm interested enough to keep on.

I'd almost forgotten how bloody damn good this series is. The graphic audio version is pretty cool, too.

My next physical read. I know nothing about this one going in except that a lot of folk say it's weird and amazing. One chapter in and there's already a guy banging a bug-lady... yup, weird.

This really is such a great series. You never feel like any of the characters are safe, but they're painted in such vivid detail, you just want to wrap them up in cotton and keep them pristine.

Technically a re-read, but I'm checking out the Graphic Audio full cast version of the book.

I have a history with Warhammer and 40k, and I've always been a guardsman at heart. So it's time to read about one of the biggest moments in 40k Imp Guard lore.

My next audiobook. I'm a sucker for Mesopotamia and Gilgamesh stories.

As I'm starting to explore some of Crichton's works, I figured I should try the book 13th Warrior was adapted from.

I decided I've started too many new series of late, so instead of picking up another new one, I'm going to work on one I started reading last year.

My next audiobook. I've heard so much about this series over the past year. It's already giving me heavy Dune vibes.

A very interesting world concept and an intriguing noir style story. I'm enjoying it so far.

This world is a ton of fun to read about, and the character voices are FIRE!

What is it with 1st person magic academy stories and hyper-competent sociopathic main characters?
