lmao, so trite; how this win a booker?

Bloviated prose; the text is uniformly accentuated to try and convey the peculiar beauty of tide pools. It would've been significantly improved by having moments — paragraphs or pages — of restraint. Simpler prose, more precise language to act as a cognitive rest.

daisy's reaction to the vid is so fucking infuriating, v small-minded and shamey. it's really not her moment to be upsetti spaghetti and just hammers in why she's the more annoying protag between her and magnolia. julien has outshone her in her own book which is embarrassing. but most of all, this is yet another pebble added to the series' unbearable het lens. god help these straight ppl.

like pulling teeth trying to get through this last bit & jacob's brand of unhinged more often pisses me off than engages me idk idk, the deep fascination with farming & building a colony really wrecked me on this. i can take minutia in small hits, this is too damn much

I take a teensy bit of an issue with trying to turn a homophobic attack into a moment to prove the hero's valor and create a lil moment for this very het couple when two pages ago, I was presented with an immediately more compelling couple: Daisy and Taura. Works on multiple levels, which this gay trauma to prove allyship isn't doing at all.

a lot of beautiful lines and i appreciate the author's perspective and the honesty with which she renders her experience, but so far i'm feeling like this isn't shaping up into a solid whole. all the pieces, whilst related, interesting, feel a little thin as far as the threading connecting them.

Diomedes/Lysander should be a thing but I looked up spoilers and stay disappointed in the LGBT+ rep.

Got my first taste of the usual brutality and reunited with series' faves. I'm taking my sweet time, but enjoying so far!

Jacob is un homme fatal with one working brain cell, the last place he should be is London.

Reading As Meat Loves Salt made this readable by contrast; not to say the writing was bad, I just dislike historical emulation that much.

I'm not liking this book, but I've also declared it my enemy and must now defeat it in combat.

Helena is insufferable.

The art was illegible in some areas and there isn’t enough difference in character design, but otherwise was one big gulp of a volume, loved it.

I am so far surprised by how stripped back the text is, though maybe I shouldn't be -that- surprised that so many filmmakers found opportunity to imprint their aesthetic over Harris' otherwise very dry work, taking the meat of the thing and seasoning it to fit with their own canons. Michael Mann's Manhunter may be the most tonally faithful and even that has Tangerine Dreams all over.

After trying a book that promised me Fast & Furious but failed to grip me quick, I'm so, so pleased by the opening for this. Totally cool set-up and immediately intriguing, plus the prose vibes with me.

Shallan is my least favorite of the POVs so far, but homegirl is out here asking the questions that need asking.

Returning to this book after several months hiatus and: 1) Kaladin is not anti-horse, he's horse-skeptical and I appreciate the representation, thanks. 2) Adolin/Kaladin/Shallan OT3, you coward.
