The thinly veiled allegory *chef's kiss*

Long story short: I moved and it was exhausting so I've been in a reading rut while I try to unpack but my library holds kept coming through so I took a chance. THIS IS SO GOOD. I'm not great at identifying time periods in novels but this takes place in an era similar to the English Regency but in a fantasy world. I love how Polk has characters that are coded Indian and describes them as beautiful without fetishizing

I'm not sure how much I have left in terms of percentages but I have two chapters left it's 5am and I haven't slept so send a will to sleep because N.K. Jemisin has devoured my soul and I heartily thank them for it. This book is *chef's kiss* brilliance and then some just read it

My first audiobook because go big or go home. An editor on book riot mentioned the narrator of the Inheritance Trilogy and how their voice added to the series so I thought I'd try audiobooks with an emergency copy of the ebook ready for help and I'm absolutely delighted.

In which a guy called BJ is incredibly astute and emotionally wise.

I would not recommend this book to younger readers because of the romance and the general view towards women in Little Lies. That said I am enjoying it. Little Lies is like a soap opera.

It's a little bit more of an infodump book but I'm enjoying it and that's what counts.

I love the sense of humor in this book and I relate to Clara way too much. This is basically my catnip romance novel.

Life's been all over the place to say the least and that's where The Roommate comes in.

I'm at the climax of the book but it's late at night and I have to wake up early and it's this sort of situation that is my fork in the garbage disposal à la the Good Place. (My life's been a mess lately. I'm still working on getting back to a healthy place and I have a couple eARCs I neednto review before class starts. How's everyone doing?)

I'm not overly familiar with 30s slang so there's a bit of a learning curve for me but Johnson has done an amazing job of crafting the setting.

Who else is a mess in a statewide shutdown? I have been having sporadic bouts of productivity and difficulty reading so I'm very late in reviewing Trouble the Saints. So far it's interesting. The first chapter confused me a bit until I reread it.

All my loans at the library are coming through at the same time but I have an eARC I need to read and review. Pray for me.

My loan came through at the library (my loans love coming through right when I'm about to work my netgalley list). This is such an amazing debut but it's definitely more adult in terms of language and sex. There are graphic depictions of violence. Also I'm now on the Story Graph as bunniesandboba.

My library loan is almost up and Docile is a bit too intense for me at the moment so I've run back to the familiarity of the Fae. Rogerson has a gift for description that feels real. This would be a perfect fall book.

I say I hate reading multiple books at the same time but I really mean I read one book and if it's intense then I read short stories and fluff with it to make sure I sleep well.

The premise of Docile is so interesting and terrifying in the way 1984 must have been years ago: you can see it on the horizon, hazy and shaking, and you're praying you never get closer to it. Docile exists in such a weird place, morally speaking, and it's almost a study in consent.

Popping in to say if you have a hard time empathizing with Claire's mom, her viewpoint is hard to understand if you're not the child of immigrants. A good example of Claire's mom's viewpoint is Eric's dad in Sex Education on Netflix. I don't remember who said it but our parents came to survive and that's what they know. They sacrificed everything for a better chance for their children. They aren't used to chasing joy

My library loan came through so Private Lessons is temporarily on the back burner. Docile has such an interesting premise and it's almost like a prophecy.

I'm starting to get into the book. It started out slow and I felt so detached and apathetic.

I don't know what is going on with my phone, the app I'm reading this eARC on, or the actual file itself but there's a weird amount of missing letters in sentences that does not seem like a mistake an author or editor would allow to happen. Also I'm getting used to the PocketBook app and would appreciate any tips or tricks anyone has because I'm very lost when it comes to how to make the most of PocketBook.

It's way too late and I can't seem to stop reading and gosh darn this is an addictive book.

Claire's insecurities flow off the pages and into my heart, reminding me of being in high school and worrying that everything is not enough. That I'm not enough. Salaysay has captured the anxiety and angst of feeling less than everyone around. Claire's annoyance at her mother is so incredibly relatable to me. Her interpretation of her mother's every action is so human.

This is my first ARC ever so I'm not sure what to expect, editing wise, especially since it's an eARC. I like how the author includes Tagalog and broken English. (My mom's side is Viet but I don't really speak Viet so there's something comforting about the lack of translation, instead relying on the few words I understand to glean the meaning of the sentence.)

This is addictive. I think I love Glynnis Campbell.

Also if you like slow burn romances with mutual pining, you'll like this. Just be warned that there's violence and mentions and descriptions of triggering events.

This is so fluffy I love it. (There is mention of violence and death that will be in my content warnings in my review)
