This book is not that good. It's way too caught up in what other reviewers have termed as "woke" BS, which has been heavily applied and clog the storytelling itself. Coming from this author, it is surprising. This book feels amateurish.

It’s taken me a week and I’m only at 137 pages, still wishing something would happen. It’s a sluggish pace with no clear connection - just narrative. More detail, more people to try to keep track of, coming, going, living and dying with pages of mundane life choice and regret, including breakfast foods. Reminds me of the Clockmakers Daughter. Not sure why I’m still reading.

40 pages in and nothing has happened. I’ve been introduced to each character several times, as the author introduces them each in the intro, and then, as they come into the hotel, and again as they have drinks, they start introducing themselves to each other... (the same things we already know) via stilted dialogue. And despite this, I can’t remember any of their names. Why? Because I don’t care about any of them.

20 pages in and struggling to be interested. I may abandon it.

28 chapters in and not much progress. Reminds me more of a 1st draft than a pro-published work. The writing is reminiscent of a high school project. Every line has some awkward description (“The house was tooth white,” - what does that mean? Bright? Ivory? ...Coffee stained?!) Writing like that pulls you out and away from the story.

The writing in this book is so bad, so amateur, that if it weren’t for a half interesting plot, I’d consider stopping short of the finish. I am halfway through and pulled out of the flow so often that I am constantly aware of the words, the direction, the thesaurus. I came to the conclusion very early on that there is no art in these words.

Distinctly "readable" once you clear the first painful hundred pages or so. However, it's a slowwwwww go.

Painful. Could be such a good story if it weren't for the writing. Still, I persist...

Ugh. Please, someone get this author a guide to punctuation.
