Still slogging away at this book. The second section's first and last stories were amazing...the rest were...not quite.

However, I'm finally into one of the sections I've been really excited about, Sherlockian Christmas. I've already read the first one and it was so great!

Onward into the breach...

Merry Christmas everyone! Whatever you have planned, not planned, etc. I hope the last few days of 2013 will be good ones for everyone. See everyone after the 26th.

Well, I'm through the first section: A Traditional Little Christmas and on to the next.
The six other stories in the section were pretty good. Some were by authors I've wanted to check out and one was my first Morse story! I've been wanting to read those since i discovered (Inspector) Lewis. Love that show. And Ellis Peters is always a nice choice.
I did find the first miss story though. Thankfully, it was short.

My page numbers are different so this might be off.

So far I've got through three stories (I know! I need to pick up the pace!) and they've been some of the best mysteries I've read in awhile. I'm really enjoying this so far.

Gotta say, I'm impressed with this so far. A much tighter writing style and boy is she not giving away much. Scarlet is really growing on me, she might even be neck and neck with Cinder, which is saying something.

I don't know how to feel about Kai though.

Bit of a slow start for me. But I think I've finally dived into this.

I'm liking Scarlet so far...but I can't help but want to see more Cinder!

I actually have tears in my eyes and my soul aches. So many of the goodbye posts echo how I'm feeling right now. 'One Foot Out the Door' however says almost exactly what I want to say but still don't have the words for. It is beautiful and sad and I hate that it had to be written.

So a book about grief and based around the Kennedy assassination was humorous and had hope while a book about Cybermen in the Middle Ages (an idea rife with possible comedy as well as drama) is depressing and the Dr.'s jokes fall flat? Ooookaaay.

You know, I love suspense as much as the next person but when the first reveal is not only spoilered by the paragraph preceeding bit by the TITLE ITSELF, I'm left slightly underwhelmed.

The essay on Martial Law in Poland during the 80s NEEDS to be read. Not only because it has connotations with the current situation but as a warning and an understanding of what can happen in ANY country. We like to think something won't happen where we live because of 'x' but there is always a way to sell an idea as 'necessary' or 'for your protection' or 'to create a more friendly atmosphere'.

A lot of this I picked up before but it's nice to have it in one place rather then scattered (and not vulnerable to deletion). Also many of the...response reviews I somehow managed to miss. They have been well done and very interesting to read!

This book is worth reading for that alone. The sonic screwdriver is used for something we've never seen before...a screwdriver. Awesome.

The snark! I love Clara and the Doctor! The dialogue, allusions to the past, and the story could easily be a show.

Umm...is anyone going to explain how the Dr. can go inside someone's mind? Anybody? At least I know why the tragic, off-topic chapter about the dog. That was...not fun. I am interested to meet Benjy as an adult though.

I LOVE the banter between Clara and the Doctor! The corridor quickstep, etc not to mention when Dr. is about to deliver a baby and asks for something to bite down on...for Him! Hate the casual destruction of an archaeological site though. Not something to joke about.

A bit of mixing plays here; Marc Anthony's funeral speech gives way to...is that Richard the III or am I seeing things?

Is it just me or is line 112 in act 4 scene 2 a slight dig at Star Trek? 'To boldly go where none hath gone is wild!' The more I read it, the more I think it is.

I just had to mention how awesome the picture of Jabba was with a hat and jacket from Shakespeare's time! Also the homage's to Shakespeare are just a strong: insults of biting your thumb at someone, soliloquys based off famous ones in his works, and of course the language it's written in all bring the Bard's works greatly to mind.
