The story has an authentic feel to it. It could be because of the first person narrative. You either believe him or put the book down. There's a fascination with something you have never done or would ever do.

Waxman tells the story in the first person. He is competent. I'm comfortable releasing myself to him. I am as far as it is possible to be from a knee jerk favorable impression of the protagonist. But, the story is well told, and I'm open to it.

I've read Preservation a couple of times already, so this is another read. I'm now on page 100 or so. I'm once again taken in by Virgil's relationship with his father, his wonderful marriage, and by the palpable feeling that something is going to bring it all dow (of course, I already know aht "it" is and that fact does not change anything.)>

Spencer is good. You're in the hands of a pro.

This is a big book in a lot of ways. The story unfolds at a deliberate pace. DeMille explores all of the nuances. Obviously, I like it.
