I love the food photography right off the bat. It's so colorful and delicious looking.

The way the sections are broken up are helpful, as well as the vegan and gluten-free icons for those that need it.

This writing is . . . not very good. Going into the DNF pile.

Please tell me things will be further explained because there's some serious issues here. She's a VEGAN who wears LEATHER?! Uh, yeah, no.

All right, nope, that's enough. I don't want to listen to step-by-step instructions on how to slaughter an animal to "honor" a god. That might be what they used to do, but I can choose not to listen to it. This will be going onto the DNF pile.

The title of this book is so freaking misleading and I'm a little upset about it. I wanted Antigone's story.

Edafe's writing really shines when he's arguing a point or educating a reader. I wish events in his life were written as strongly.

"I felt like a failure, abandoning the community I had helped to build."

I really wish Edafe had gone into further detail on this (building his community). I feel like it was glossed over. Considering he won an award for his work, it definitely deserved some more page time than it got.

The further this goes on, the less of a difference there is in the MMCs' voices when it switches perspectives each chapter. It's hard to remember who's chapter it is.

"It was clear I was walking into fire - but I would rather have been burned fighting for change than be burned slowly on the sidelines, watching members of my community die, while waiting for my turn."

I love memoirs, but when a person isn't also a professional writer, it's very easy to tell. I want more introspection and description rather than Event A, B, and C happening.

I had been so hyped for this book, but, man, this writing really isn't doing it for me.

Meh, I'm just not feeling this one. And I think The Ex Hex did the Halloweentown feel better (full disclosure: I LOVED The Ex Hex).

So let me get this straight . . . This douchebag treated your childhood BFF like someone less than, but YOU think starting something with him is a good idea. Which (heh) then implies that you're good enough for him? Which leads to your BFF being less than you? Nah, not buying it. You were just a shitty BFF to hook up with someone who sees others on a sliding scale of worthiness.

I think I'm already going to love Abuelo and Killian.

Holy cow, this narrator is a beautiful baritone shock to the system.

Seriously, what is the fucking point of this book? Is it supposed to be like spirits of Christmas past, only the boyfriends aren't dead? And Lola just complains about her relationships in the most annoying, first-world-problems way possible?

Where is this book even going?

I know June French is a fictional character, but what I wouldn't give to read her Cosmopolitan interview.
