I am temporarily - at least I think it will temporary - putting this on hold for now to read something else. This one is just not captivating me the way I'd hoped or wanted it to. Dare I say I'm finding it a bit boring? So hopefully I will return to this in another week or so. We'll see.

I love Emma Donoghue, and have had difficulty reaching the halfway point. I'm having a really hard time with this one. It took me several starts to make the commitment to keep listening, and I'm ready to abandon it, yet keep hoping it gets better. From some of the reviews I've read here, I'm not sure it does. I'll hang in there for now, but at the halfway point this is a mere 2 stars from a writer I love.

I hope things pick up soon. This book is taking its sweet time to get moving, and unless it picks up soon, will barely be 3 stars for me.

At 1/4 of the way through this, I'm not impressed.

I don't know about this one........... I immediately read 1/4 of it in the first sitting, but am not nearly as enthused as I thought I would be. I hope it picks up.

I'm struggling with this one - seems to be the way with the last few books I've listened to. I thought it would be right up my alley. I'll finish it, as it's short, but it's not grabbing me.

Is this book EVER going to end?!?!?!?!?!? I haven't read anything that's this interminable in a long time. Unless this ends with a bang, and I have no evidence it will, this may be my most disappointing book of the year.

In my last status update I was closer to 35%. The book is longer than I realized. Now I am almost at the 50% point and am getting annoyed that nothing much is happening yet. Can any of my friends out there who might have read this tell me if this is worth continuing? I can't say I'm enjoying it so far.

This is my second attempt at this book. This time I made it about 25% of the way through it before I had to return it to the library, where there is a long waiting list. I'm going to give it one more try when it cycles back to me, but so far I am not all that captivated by either the story or the writing.

I'm very close to giving up on this one. So many characters in a 150-year timeline. I'm finding it hard to keep track of who's speaking in the audio version.

So far this book is a splendid 5-star read of the sad history of Koreans living/semi-exiled in Japan through the 1900's, told through 4 generations. I am enjoying this immensely.

OK - to my Goodreads friends who have read this: I just hit the halfway point and am finding this very slow, and not at all suspenseful or thrilling. Does it pick up and get better? And any time soon?

With a great deal of effort, I've made it half-way through this, but wow, has it been a slog for me so far. I want to love it, and my mind says it's probably a 5-star book, but my reading self is saying otherwise................. Still not sure if I'll make it to the end.

At the halfway point, this marvelous and deeply poignant story is shaping up to be a 5-star novel.

I'm shelving this one for a bit. It hasn't truly caught me yet. Not only is the subject matter (Alzheimer's, and the caretaking of one's mother in the throes of it) too depressing for me right now, several other books that are due sooner than this one have suddenly come my way. I intend to return to this, but ..... it remains to be seen.

At about 45% through this book, so far I am not enjoying these dark stories one bit. :-(
