I’ve read quite a few reviews of this book that I appreciate, but I think it’s also important to remember the historical context of this time. People were simplistic in their actions and character, or at least others saw things this way. This time was incredibly disheartening and the main character was obviously emotionally abused for much of her life, which can cause scars that run deep.

So far this book reads like an episode of 20/20 which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

I just cannot finish this book. I’ve tried so many times but lose interest so fast. There are characters that are brought up so sparingly I forget about them completely and so much detail that I find it arduous to continue reading. I hate not finishing a book but I’ve tried so many times to get back into this one to no avail.
