The book is short but the narrator’s reading style makes it feel much longer. Not a fan of how this narrator speaks with such a low voice monotone sound. She doesn’t ramp up her enthusiasm or speed during the exciting parts which makes those parts kind of fall flat. Story is a good beginning. Kind of wish sci-fi authors could stop doing the “big scary aliens/horror” parts i their books. Sci-fi can be great without it

Very good book. Ending was a little to similar to Babylon 5 for me.

So this author is highly unoriginal. So far we have a typical alien invasion story. By this book, we're getting aspects of Star Trek (biggest enemy from ST anyone?) and now aspects of the Nights Dawn trilogy (Peter Hamilton) with the "Controlled". Ugh. So not original.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Finally a story about a heroine who isn’t the perfect beauty and who doesn’t end up with her greatest love. Eager to read the next books.

About half-way through the book and although I am enjoying this series, I really feel this author is using a lot of themes/plots from lots of other books. In this book, we have none other than the ghostbusters; a version of captain america; his dark materials (multi-dimensional travel); and a horror movie. Not to mention all of the political statements about immigration, deportation, "the great american dream", etc.
