And we are off to a slow start...

What a fascinating beginning to this story! I was a bit confused at first thinking I was supposed to be reading a detective mystery but finding myself in a i capture the castle sort of premise but eventually I caught on to where this is going.

Finally reading this novel. I can't believe I haven't read it before.

*looks at length of the book* Yikes!

*confirms book is longer than Sarah Maas's but shorter than George RR Martin's* Okay, I've done this before. But, yikes!

So I thought I was doing a seasonal read set in January. But it turns out I'm reading a book about a girl named January.

I'm super intrigued by the premises of this novel. That said I'm already having "Chicago" issues. I think Veronica and I live in different Chicagos. I can't get over the description of a site being "in the middle of the Loop" yet "next to the river". If its in the middle of the Loop, it can't be on the river!

I cheated and looked ahead and read the last few chapters.

Okay I totally want a fire sprite and a chimera.

So far I've been able to stop reading and put the book down each night. So not exactly a gripping page turner. We've seen these characters before in different books with different names. It's easy enough to read, however. And I do appreciate how SJM creates her own unique locations.

Holy crap, this book has 12,900 locations on the kindle ebook version! By comparison it seems half the books I read average 3,000 - 5,000 locations. This is one long ass book! Although I see its not as long as the last Throne of Glass book so not SJM's longest one. Well off I go, let's see how long this takes me...

Well I've found my footing in this story. I'm not quite sure why a story with ghosts and secret societies and murder is not riveting but its not, I'm slogging through. The constant back and forth in time does not help. I so want to love this book but I don't think is going to work out for me.

I'm off to a rocky start. This book keeps moving back in time with each chapter and I'm struggling to find my footing in this story.

I'm back to reading this book. I don't know what it is about summer but I seem to go through a dinosaur phase every July. Must be the endless Jurassic Park marathons on tv.

HOLY CRAP...How did I miss this book coming out?!?!? How in this day and age with everything I follow and read could this book come out without me knowing about it? I was even desperately searching just last fall for any news of a new book in the series. It must have snuck out literally the week after I was looking for it *sigh* Well I have it now... *drops everything and starts reading*

Finally back to finishing this. Not sure why I got distracted away from this last year as I have really enjoyed all the stories. Going to finish it on this stretch!

I'm super bummed because I am not liking this book...

In the mood for a reread...

In which I discover this is not YA Fantasy as many have described and the cover suggests, but YA Historical Fiction.

Off to a good start!

The pictures are just gorgeous! I love how they develop and emerge as each story progresses.

Rereading

This book is sadly slogging in the middle.

Looked ahead to the acknowledgements...its fun to recognize the name of some friends in there!

Currently rereading. I've determined the first 20% is good...it's after that that it starts to drag. Now in the parts of endless dinner parties and Nesta being overly irritating.

Bursting out laughing while reading about a battle is not a good thing is it? (But o...m....g....)

I swear this book is lengthening while I'm reading it. I keep reading every night and yet I can't get past 60% done! The only explanation is that it's adding pages to itself every night :)
