The victim blaming here is terrible. This woman asks for a love spell and the witches give it but when the woman complains about the guy turning controlling, the witches tell her to fuck off instead of helping & somehow, she becomes literally mute & the book is like she deserves it. What? If the love spells are so ethically wrong, the witches are wrong to offer them too & can't push all the blame on the customers

When Samantha Shannon gets explicit, she makes it EXTRA. Libation lol. How does Paige even know the word? She always needs mythology explained to her.

60 pages with no sight of Safi and Iseult only with side characters wandering around with no idea where (typical), then a 100 pages SOLELY with Safi, Iseult and Aeduan (& a bit of Caden) and you can just say it, the first 60 pages were pointless.
Still shipping Safi with Caden though, those scenes together were INTENSE

We're already told at the start she fakes her death, why does it takes almost half the book to get there? The author shouldn't have spoilt the story like this

"I have never known men" - fuck, where??? There are men 24/7 surveilling her to check she never does anything forbidden while she also has (probably violent) sex fantasies about the one hot guy (and she finds the other women annoying, too)

I can't emphasize enough how much it bothers me the first thing the war minister asks is to be called by her first name and then narrator Owen actually following along. Have they no self respect? Is this another "women have no last names" thing by the author? I cringe very time I read "Vivian"

Never before have I so eagerly anticipated to hate-read something - for 4 years!! Unless of course it's so bad I won't get into the story to begin with. Though maybe the author heard of my and similar complaints of how confusing this series is. There's a glossary in the back now and the start mentions a summary online. Woah. (seems way too long though, it's 10 pages in Word even in the smallest font size)

I cared so little I only opened it again to decide to do no finish but it does pick up after the creek scene and now I'm invested. Love the creek is featured on the bare hardcover of this edition, it's so vital to the story.

I have zero pity their salt mine has run dry. After generations of inherited wealth, the siblings can WORK for their living. But what does this lady do although she COULD work? Would rather sell herself to marry a underwater god. The book could be great if everything isn't solved by her marriage(s) instead of getting a job

The constant POV switches (like every 3 pages on average) are way less annoying on the second read when I have a idea of what's going on with the story and characters

Not sure if Cade is autistic without putting on a act or a abusive woman hater. I wouldn't be surprised he chased is ex away with atrocious behaviour and then he terrorized her with legal "don't take my kid from me" threats and that's why she cut off contact. (This is me talking who would never blame a woman for leaving her family behind)

Why would Victoria's last daughter Beatrice inherit the throne? Her eldest sister Victoria dowager empress of Germany & her children are still alive in 1898 when Beatrice ascends. Don't just tell me the princes died in the alt history - when one daughter can inherit, so can her sisters. I NEED to know what happened to them too. This minor detail bothers me so much because it's so off and the whole book is like that

Anne Boleyn "manages and orders and governs everything, and the King does not dare to oppose her" - yeah, we always hear about the scheming ladies "managing" everything but when it's a book in their POVs, we NEVER see them do anything of the managing kind. I do want to read about women doing government stuff & I certainly never saw Anne Boleyn recruiting spies. I take recommendations for books/shows where she does!

I waited 7 weeks to read the Illumicrate edition and for what? Unsigned brick with a lame and ugly cover (the endpapers are okay). Should've sticked to the regular paperback and skipped the special edition

Warner only ever got one single present but he "takes everything" so he has no shame to pick and buy all those fancy clothes (and soaps lol) by himself. I get the feeling but no one talks about it. When you had restricted access to things you wanted as a child, you'll take the chances to get when you have the money and options. (Though where his money cames from ...)
