This is… disappointing. As unrestrained passion is to Wuthering Heights, so cold indifference is to Villette. And I don’t care for either extreme. Still going to finish, but taking a Gaskell break first. Jane Eyre is so much better! I’m surprised this was written after.

So many of Dickens’ quirks (rambling stories that don’t further the plot, characters with seemingly no point) and yet I am enjoying this one so much!

I've been busy and thus focused more on audiobooks, so slow progress here. But I love it so far! Other than the dialect is rather hard to read... Wish Gaskell would have used regular speech for her characters.

I dread picking the one up... If it wasn't for a read along that I'm dedicated to finishing, I'd have DNF'd long ago.

So far, this is nothing like what I expected...

Part Two is entirely a glossary of terms... making it slow, slow going. I'm giving myself grace to read significantly fewer pages at a time now.

It’s Jane Austen July so I’m pulling this one back out!

This story is seriously messed up! At this juncture, Jones, having sworn off casual sex in the name of true love, has allowed a middle aged woman to buy his companionship... I can’t even with this novel.

Officially half way and it’s time for another break. One can only take so many boring stories followed by yet another seduction of our “hero”.
