I feel like this author is criminally overrated. Camp Concentration was ok, but everything else I’ve read by him has been pretty bad, or boring. Also this cover art has to be some of the worst I’ve ever seen.. the weird and ugly reprints of the 80s and their horrible semi photorealistic ‘art’. Hard to imagine someone creating art like this and even harder to imagine someone approving it.

Yeehaw! Onward to another Bukowski poetry collection. No bullshit!, just a heaping mountain of fucking grit.

Full of tired tropes and cliches. Gaiman’s heyday was during his run with Sandman. I feel like this book pontificates mainly on the themes that have made him popular in the past decade more than anything. Trudging through the last of this one. Blargh.

Good so far... but how the fuck did this win the Philip K Dick award? It’s not even science fiction.. besides being in an unnamed place/time

I’ve read two other book by Kerouac and in those, he struck he as a charlatan. Not a true fringe writer, a total hack and poser. I’m giving him one final chance with this one.

Quite a lot about the horrors of being a thrall to a restaurant. I know all of this too well, and it's funny to think how little has changed since the time this book was written.

Decided awhile back that I'd read Orwell's other books. Started with Homage to Catalonia, now this will be the second one I read, aside from his other more well known works.

Very hit and miss in this collection. However the hits are big hits and make up for all the forgettable misses.

This book uses excerpt style of story telling that basically kills the book.

Reminds me a lot of The Stand, in a very good way. Really liking it so far. Just got to part 2 where things are really about to heat up.

Bukowski was the man! I wish I hadn't read all his novels already. But this poetry collection is just as good. Really one of his best collections I've read, by far!

I've read numerous Bukowski collections and this is one of the best ones for sure, so far anyway. The very best one being Last Night of the Earth Poems which ended up being his last collection.

Of all the editions of this book for the default edition, Goodreads has chosen the most egregious one. What an eyesore. The book is sort of standard space opera pulp but with a political science twist to it, sort of. I'm actually enjoying it so far.

Well this is one of those books that they say "inspired" The Hunger Games, or some people say The Hunger Games ripped off this book. Written in 1968 it pre dates The Hunger Games and Battle Royale as well by decades. So far I like it a lot, it's got an interesting premise and an easily imaginable world.

It's the original for the dystopian genre. Too bad I've read all the people who ripped it off first... I've read this story by Orwell, Tevis, Levin, and I'm sure some other ones..still going to wait to see if it had any hidden gems

They say that George Orwell basically ripped 1984 straight from this book! I can already see after just 30 pages that the plot is going to be totally identical.

Really hating the banter and close up of the celebrity's life in this book. But not counting those parts it's pretty good so far.

It isn't bad but it's taking a beloved genre and bending it to its contemporary and some would say "literary" way. I'm giving it a chance, and I like it. It's just that I love all the old SF and all the old themes and even some of the cliches from that era, it's hard to let them go.
