I can't let this book beat me

Getting to this point felt like a long hard slog through a snow drift.

I've seen lots of recs for this author and I don't get it.

I'm not reading any more for now as it's not holding my interest. I don't care about any of the characters or the story.

I just cannot go on any longer. I am bored with this.

Oh, I almost read more than do pages in one sitting then because the story became slightly interesting at last. Only took 260 pages.

How many more pages will it take for this ship to fly out of this other ship, jfc?

Keeping up a decent pace... I won't let it beat me this time.

Managed about five pages of this. Nope.

My glacial progress continues.

Now the hottest part of summer is finished I'll endeavour to read two pages a night...

Got to the bit with the ear wax. Hmm.

Found the long descriptions of stuff the family children did went on a bit too long as well.

Giving this a second attempt nearly 20 years after the first one. When I opened it a ticket stub for a flight to Amsterdam fell out. I think this was from the BwB trip in... 2007? 2008?

A few scientific errors in the first part of the book make me ask why, as an author who wants to write about a pandemic virus, would you choose to include unnecessary details without getting them checked for accuracy. I really don't get this. Either include accurate details or don't include any details.

Is the name of the ship an homage to the brilliant TV series of the same name (Fortitude) which is about monsters in a frozen environment?

Not enjoying this anywhere near as much as i expected to. It's so unpleasant that I just don't want to pick it up again after stopping. I'm not fussed about what happened to anyone in the book and nothing about it calls to me .

I may DNF this after 2%.

I'm not interested in a detailed description of a rich teenager driving around Hollywood. It's 2024. I was expecting something different from this novel.

I was making really good progress with reading generally up until a couple of weeks ago when I received some surprising news about a professional qualification I'm working on and long story short I don't think I'll be doing more than five minutes a day of reading for pleasure until July. 😕

Struggling with this. It was described to me as this amazing story but I'm finding it quite saccharine, self indulgent, twee.
