Abolish the Family: A Manifesto for Care and Liberation

Geoff Taylor is on page 142 of 320 of Bound for Glory
A childhood full of drama and incident in early 20th century USA, expressed in wildly imaginative descriptions, colourful colloquially transcribed language. Love that on page 63, in an encounter he had as a kid, he gives a black person's definition and use of the n* word, still true today.

The content of this audio book was very compelling but the sound quality of the free version I had made it so difficult to follow that, unfortunately, I stopped listening.

Yay, completed parts 1 and 2. Dull yes, but presumably vital building blocks in Marx's overall thesis.

Short story "The women men don't see" very odd in its way and a very dark view of women's lot in western society

I didn't fully follow "The last flight of Doctor Ain", but enjoyed the dark denouement. "The Screwfly Solution" - very impressive in conception and execution of this gender-linked tale

The point of view of the book - liberal, anti-elitist, maybe socialist - as I understand it, should be right up my street. However, the lack of narrative, the static nature of the contents, leaves me cold. And if I want speeches, and conversations between ill-informed bigots, I can get that online and for real at UK news websites. Sorry, but to be honest, I don't want to continue reading this book.

Really enjoying the book. Hazel and Augustus are great characters. If Juno, from the move Juno, got cancer, maybe she'd be something like Hazel. Without dropping any spoilers, the confrontation between a small number of key characters at about the half way / two thirds mark is very interesting.

Excellent book, lots of entertaining and informative stories connected with different elements. Very effective approach to focus on the often fascinating stories of people involved.
