I know all the ideas & remember all the feelings in this book. So far, a tour de force

I am listening to this book. I had to stop listening to the news-- it upset me too much. So far, this book elevates the idea of America& makes me think of concepts that I wasn't aware of. It is rooted in philosophy & will likely make me read other books. I have always thought that writing about some other piece of writing is derivative but I have changed my mind. There is so much to unpack here.20

I did not know that this is the book I needed to read: found it on the new books shelf at the library & from Lena Dunham 's introduction to the first chapter - this memoir is advice based on lived experience. I wish we were all so lucky to be mentored by Betty. I love her already.

I love the wry writing of Lydia Davis so, I was happy to find this tiny volume on my library's new books shelf. I borrowed it ,& started reading it. I am enjoying it a great deal.

Such lyrical writing. I am engrossed in this work right from the get go. I want to go see sea horses now.

I am re reading this book or rather listening to it and want to find my paper version to underline all the good lines.

This book is breaking my heart. The writer does repetition so well. The writing is unique.

I live in the south west & the summer, along with the fire season has begun and the yearning for travel inland to deserts is supplanted but some consideration of heat& by extension fire. I am spending the weekend in Fallbrook, California amidst civilization but this feels like an appropriate read as I dip in & out of the essays & land on "Dope in the desert"
Hopefully, an exciting read awaits me in the shade. Ciao!

I am reading this during my commute in the time of covid19 & it seems particularly apt.

I am loving the book. Her way of addressing the words to her unborn daughter I like..a lot.

So loving this book.
