I actually couldn’t finish the first book in this series. I could not stomach one of the character’s glee at killing so many innocent children just because they were not “authorized” to exist. I just knew this was not a story line I wanted to follow any farther as it is too close for me to the current reality of millions of abortions occur if every year in our current world,

I had a hard time getting into this book as keeping track of characters was a bit crazy, and I was unsuccessful in determining relationships until about halfway through the book. I'm not sure if the author did this on purpose to conceal the actual DNA relationships until later but to me it was confusing. I love time travel, but didn't love this one.

I loved this book and learned about a part of history I knew little of before. I knew Stalin had killed hundreds of thousands of his own people, but did not realize it was so similar to the way Jews were treated by Hitler. Such cruelty and inhumanity are always shocking and yet the author portrayed the story well, also still portraying strength/weakness, love/hate, suffering/ compassion. A great book!
