This book is thoroughly dated, having been written shortly after WWI. The author quite clearly wears his prejudices on his sleeve. Still, with that in mind I feel this book so far has been useful from a metahistorical standpoint at getting a glimpse at how the history of the Balkans was view in the early 20th century.

I first read this book at least 20 years ago, and clearly did not pay much, or enough attention to it. Met. Anthony has long been one of my favorite Orthodox writers, but his teaching so far in this book has been just what I've needed.
