Just being irritated that I went to request the third book in a series from my local library, and they don't have it...because it won't be released until next November. Cue my frowny face.

This book is astonishingly good so far. It's a mind-game and I can't figure out what our narrator is actually up to. But it's a fun ride trying to figure it out!

Everything's way too easy for Sam. I was waiting for the moment when she realized her feelings for Alex and couldn't reconcile them with continuing to date Josh, then had to break up with a guy who is domineering and scary to her.

No, he broke up with her. But it's okay because he was cheating. She's over him right away. As in, she attends a wedding and isn't even wistful about the breakup.

I've repeated the "Throw me a why not" scene to three people since reading it. I'm enjoying this book a lot but I'm afraid the ending is going to be wrenching and sad.

I realized when she got the new apartment and new clothes that this is a "billionaire romance." Aha.

Also, now that I've figured out Knightley's identity, I'm not entirely sure why I should keep listening, but I'm going to keep going for a while. I wish the narration were a bit more evocative.

Also, Silent Night has no chorus. I just needed to say that. They couldn't have picked up the chorus the second time around. #NitpickAlert

If your character is thinking, "I really shouldn't be doing this" and "There's no reason I'm not doing the sensible thing here, but I really want to know..." then that's a signal that your character knows better. I had to stop here because if you're in a locked room with a man who's already tried to kill you, it's probably best not to engage him in lengthy conversation.

This is so good and so well-written. Just read the paragraphs about the Permian extinction for an example of how evocative Brusatte's writing can be.

I have no idea what percentage I'm at, actually, since it's an audiobook & iBooks won't tell me the percentage.

The story so far reminds me strongly of A Wrinkle in Time/Wind in the Door; the narrator is doing a bang-up job. It's enjoyable and the characters are relatable. We're about to start the main conflict.

I finished chapter one, and more has happened in this one chapter than happened in the first eight chapters of the last book I started. (And DNF'd.)

I like it. I like how Martin is establishing the main character's personality without having to come out and say anything directly. Really good.

So....nothing has happened. I mean, stuff has *happened* but it all feels like backstory/filler until the real story starts, and it could have been summed up in a couple of lines in the real chapter one. "How did I get to {location?} Well, I'm kind of on the run for the murder of my friend. Which, for the record, I didn't commit."

Everyone else says it's tense. I'm kinda...not?

It's amazing to me both how much of this book I've forgotten AND how much of it I remembered. The last time I read this book was in 1981 or thereabouts.

The appendix featured Dwight Longnecker's story for a second time, which makes me wonder why they thought they needed his introduction.

Also, the narrator is driving me insane.

The narrator. The narrator. The narrator.

Sauron --> "Soren"
Galadriel --> "Galdrel"
"bibliolatry --> "bib-lee-oh-la-try"

The book itself is actually pretty good, although I'm starting to get irritated with Lewis.

Just for curiosity's sake, I looked on Amazon, and the forword, introduction, and introduction to the first edition, AND the acknowledgments, are so long they take up the entire "look inside" preview.

Guess what, St. Benedict Press? I actually want to read Joseph Pearce's stuff, not people telling me what Joseph Pearce is about to tell me. No, really!

I'm listening to the audio version, and I'm 45 minutes into a 7.5 hour book.

I have yet to hear ONE WORD by Joseph Pearce because we had first an introduction, then another introduction, and now we're on the third introduction. Every stinking introduction so far has recapitulated the other two introductions, and it sounds like there may be one more.

The narrator doesn't even say they're intros. AAAAGH. Really?

The obvious connection between yarn stashing and book hoarding is...well, kind of painful. :-) I have both.

This is lighthearted and insightful at the same time.

I'm doing beta reads right now, which sadly doesn't count toward my GR challenge until the books are listed on Goodreads. They're both fun books though!

I have no idea if I'm really at 20%. It's chapter 5.

Very well done so far! I'm enjoying it, and I think it's primarily because of the narrative voice.

So far so good. This is the "kindle" edition, but it's actually Hoopla. Also, nothing has happened yet, including meeting Jacob Marley, but the style feels Dickensian enough that I am just enjoying the ride.
