The counting and the stream-of-consciousness line breaks are infuriating. That, along with some Gary Stu not-like-the-other-kids crap.

The writing isn't bad but it's so hard to get through. The characters are flat and the POV keeps changing to new and unrelated characters. It feels like random ideas smashed together rather than a cohesive piece.

I can't bring myself to feel anything for Mare or any other characters. The antagonists lack substance, motive, and depth. Everyone talks like mustache-twirling SuperVillains (TM).

I think I jinxed myself when I wrote my last review saying: "I'm suspicious of my good luck this year choosing books that are not only readable but also enjoyable."

Darkfever is readable but painful AF. The heroine is annoying and acts like an idiot, and I'm really turned off by the "but that was all about to change" or "I later discovered that..."

Lots of messy writing. A lot of things are happening, but I'm lost and have no attachment whatsoever to Jon as an MC. I have to put this down, but I'll try to come back to it another time in the future.
